Day 1: Assemble your glass on a kiln shelf in preparation for combing. Learn about color reactions, viscosity, and other properties of individual colors to be aware of when taking glass to hotter temperatures and mixing of colors. Learn strategies for achieving the look you desire - be it a more painterly effect or one with extra depth. Discuss lay-out options and the effect on the finished piece.
Day2: Be sure to wear all cotton clothing and come prepared to comb 1700 degree molten glass. We will layer you with protective gloves, face mask, and apron to help you withstand the heat as you use a metal implement to stir your colors! Learn safety, strategies, and precautions to consider.
Day 3: Learn different ways to incorporate your combed piece into finished art. Learn use of the sandblaster and tile saw to clean up and shape your combed piece. Incorporate your combed piece into a 3/8" thick, 12x7 dish or wall hanging.
Day 4: Learn use of lap grinder and wet belt sander to professionally finish the edge of your work of art.
